Bitcoin’s price hit a historic high of over $123K on July 14, 2025, then corrected and has remained above $118.5K for several days, according to Binance. While Bitcoin was in a correction phase, many altcoins gained in price, and total crypto market capitalization increased by about 5% to $3.9 trillion, according to CoinMarketCap as of July 24.
Following Bitcoin’s all-time high, the market entered a growth phase where many altcoins outperformed Bitcoin in returns. Experts interviewed by RBC-Crypto pointed to several assets worth attention during this stage. Most agree that the crypto market will not grow evenly due to the overwhelming number of tokens and limited liquidity.
Market situation
The overall macroeconomic environment favors cryptocurrency growth. Exmo exchange's communications director, Mikhail Smirnov, views a potential U.S. rate cut and increased money supply as key drivers for the next altseason. He also noted a 3% drop in Bitcoin dominance over the week, calling it “significant.”
“We’ve begun the typical liquidity rotation: first BTC, then ETH, now SOL is rising. The ‘big to small’ principle remains, but it’s important to understand — there’s not enough liquidity for everyone. The market has too many tokens, and not all will have the chance to pump,” said Smirnov.
Currently, exchanges are listing a lot of “junk,” and the vast number of coins is scattering traders’ and investors’ attention, wrote Andrey Podolyan, chief analyst at Cryptorg.
In the current market environment, the highest growth is often seen in new or lesser-known low-cap tokens that have long been overlooked. Podolyan says market makers may accumulate such tokens in advance, then manipulate prices to boost their value.
“It’s very hard to find the right token — you either need luck or insider info,” he noted.
The growth of assets like Ethereum and Solana is primarily driven by institutional demand, wrote Ryan Li, lead analyst at Bitget Research. In addition to capital inflows from traditional markets, he highlighted the U.S. GENIUS Act stablecoin bill as a positive for Ethereum.
“The GENIUS Act creates new use cases for stablecoins on the Ethereum blockchain. Also, regulators stated that ETH is not a security — this removes a major barrier for institutional players previously concerned about legal risks. All of this lays a solid foundation for a potential new ATH within the next year,” wrote Li.
Other altcoins
Among less attractive assets, Smirnov pointed to Ethereum-based Layer 2 tokens like Arbitrum (ARB) and Optimism (OP). He explained these were designed as tech overlays to fix base-chain issues, but now Ethereum developers aim to solve those issues at the protocol level, which raises doubts about L2’s long-term value.
As promising picks, Smirnov highlighted first-layer blockchains — SUI (SUI), SEI (SEI), and Avalanche (AVAX) — along with AI-related projects, which “still have potential” as many trade at a discount.
He also singled out Toncoin (TON), due to Telegram’s native crypto wallet entering the U.S. market, and PUMP — the token of pump.fun, the largest memecoin launchpad in the Solana ecosystem.
Among “fairly stable” coins, Podolyan mentioned Ethena (ENA), Ondo Finance (ONDO), and TON:
“These assets have real ecosystems, large communities, and practical use. But most importantly, they haven’t grown as much as other top assets yet, so there’s room to profit.”
Li, meanwhile, highlighted exchange tokens, which “traditionally benefit from every bull run,” as crypto interest boosts trading activity:
“They offer fee discounts, better product access, and serve as valuable tools within the ecosystem. We’ve already seen BNB Chain (BNB) gain about 20% in a month, nearing its ATH. Bitget Token (BGB) has quadrupled in a year.”
