Bitcoin Price Today: Drops to $117K as Altcoins Retreat

Bitcoin fell on Tuesday, leading a broader decline in cryptocurrency prices as the sector saw profit-taking after a stellar rally over the past two weeks.

Bitcoin had surged to record highs above $123,000, while altcoins also rallied as crypto enthusiasts celebrated the U.S. government's approval of key cryptocurrency regulations. Bitcoin was further supported by news that former President Donald Trump’s company, Trump Media & Technology Group Corp (NASDAQ: DJT), revealed holdings of $2 billion in crypto assets.

However, by Tuesday, the rally appeared to stall, with Bitcoin retreating sharply from recent peaks. Other altcoins also posted losses after strong gains in recent sessions.

Risk appetite cooled amid growing uncertainty over Trump’s incoming tariffs set to take effect on August 1 and ahead of next week’s Federal Reserve meeting.

By 05:40 Moscow time, Bitcoin was down 1% at $117,210.3.

Trump Media Discloses $2 Billion Bitcoin Holdings

On Monday, Trump Media announced it had accumulated about $2 billion in Bitcoin after raising $2.3 billion to establish a Bitcoin treasury.

The announcement pushed Trump Media shares up by 9%, though they closed Monday with a 3.1% increase.

The statement highlighted Trump’s growing interest in cryptocurrencies, as his family launched several crypto projects this year, including World Liberty Financial Group and the $TRUMP memecoin, both of which boosted his personal wealth.

Earlier this year, Trump signed executive orders to establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve and appointed a “crypto czar” in the White House.

Crypto Prices Today: Altcoins Retreat After Strong Rally

The broader crypto market largely followed Bitcoin’s pullback, experiencing some profit-taking after last week’s strong gains.

Ethereum dropped 2.8% to $3,680.18 after hitting its strongest levels since December.

XRP fell 2.5% to $3.4726, Cardano lost 1%. Solana outperformed, gaining 4.6%.

Among meme tokens, Dogecoin slid 2.9%, and $TRUMP dropped 5.4%.
