Institutional Investors Acquired 64,000 Bitcoins Over the Last Month

Institutional Bitcoin purchases accelerated again in April, with corporate reserves acquiring more than 64,000 BTC in a single month. According to the published data, publicly traded companies and institutional reserves added a total of 64,722 BTC in April. The net increase amounted to approximately 57,791 BTC. As a result, April 2026 became one of the largest periods of institutional Bitcoin buying since mid-2025.

According to the report, the largest purchase was made by Strategy, led by Michael Saylor. In April, the company acquired a total of 56,235 BTC. Most of these purchases were financed through the ATM funding model (at-the-market stock sales) using STRC and MSTR shares.

A particularly notable capital inflow came from STRC. According to the report, between April 1 and May 3, STRC raised a total of $3.3 billion in financing. This amount represented approximately 80% of Strategy’s total financing volume of $4.1 billion during the same period, setting a new monthly record in the company’s history.

The data showed that institutional Bitcoin purchases in April alone nearly matched the total net purchases from the previous two quarters combined, giving a strong start to the second quarter of 2026.

Meanwhile, the total amount of BTC invested in spot Bitcoin ETFs reached approximately 1.5 million BTC. This figure is about 300,000 BTC higher than the Bitcoin reserves held by publicly traded companies. The competition between BlackRock’s IBIT and Strategy is especially noteworthy. As of May 5, Strategy held 818,334 BTC, while IBIT reserves stood at approximately 818,147 BTC.

The report also emphasized that companies are expanding not only in Bitcoin holdings but also in altcoin reserves. It noted that the total altcoin reserves of institutional companies amount to approximately $22 billion, of which $16.2 billion consists of Ethereum reserves.
