ICE and OKX Plan to Launch Perpetual Oil Futures
- Intercontinental Exchange and OKX have expanded their previously announced partnership.
- The operator of the New York Stock Exchange will serve as the benchmark provider for WTI and Brent oil contracts on OKX.
- The products will only be launched in jurisdictions where OKX holds a licence to offer perpetual futures trading.
Intercontinental Exchange, the operator of the New York Stock Exchange, is partnering with the cryptocurrency exchange OKX to launch perpetual oil futures contracts. At the same time, the company had previously called on US authorities to take control of the derivatives trading platform Hyperliquid.
For this new category of financial products, ICE will provide pricing data. According to the release, the contracts will initially cover only two products — WTI and Brent crude oil.
“Oil markets are critical to the global economy. ICE’s Brent and WTI futures markets provide benchmark pricing relied upon by energy traders worldwide. Bringing these benchmarks into regulated perpetual futures contracts is exactly the bridge between traditional and digital markets that market participants have been asking for,” said Haider Rafique, Global Chief Marketing Officer and Managing Partner at OKX.
It is worth noting that in March 2026, ICE invested an undisclosed amount in OKX, which was valued at $25 billion. The new announcement emphasised that the launch of the futures products is the result of this strategic agreement.
Earlier, ICE and the operator of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange called on US authorities to place Hyperliquid under regulatory oversight. Hyperliquid is one of the largest derivatives exchanges offering contracts on oil and precious metals.
This move is partly driven by the platform’s growing popularity and its potential influence on traditional markets. In March 2026, daily oil futures trading volume on Hyperliquid briefly exceeded $1.7 billion. At the time of writing, trading volume stood at approximately $777 million for WTI and $346 million for Brent, according to the official website.
