Tether switches to modular systems for Bitcoin mining

The largest player in the crypto industry is expanding its own computing infrastructure. According to Tether’s statement, the company has begun implementing high-density modular systems for Bitcoin ($BTC) mining.

The development is being carried out in collaboration with Canaan and ACME Swisstech. The initiative aims to radically change the approach to building industrial mining farms.

From monoliths to modules

Tether plans to stop purchasing standard, ready-to-use “box” miners. Instead, engineers will integrate individual Avalon hash board modules from Canaan into its own architecture.

“This approach allows computational units to be separated from power systems and casings. In traditional devices, all components are linked, which makes upgrades and repairs difficult,” Tether explained.

The modular design allows operators to upgrade or replace specific boards without decommissioning the entire machine.

“This method enables direct control over costs and performance at an industrial scale,” emphasized Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino.

The new equipment is optimized for immersion systems — a technology in which computing boards are submerged in a special dielectric liquid.

“It removes heat more efficiently than air. This reduces electricity costs and allows chips to operate at higher power without overheating risks,” according to the announcement.

Market competition

Tether’s activity in the technical sector is accompanied by asset accumulation. In mid-April, the company invested another $70 million into the leading cryptocurrency, purchasing 951 $BTC.

At present, the issuer’s total Bitcoin reserves have reached 97,204 $BTC.

In the market, Tether will also compete with mining giant American Bitcoin Corp, backed by Donald Trump’s family, which recently completed an expansion of its capacity in Drumheller, Canada.

The company powered up new installations, increasing its total hashrate to 28.1 EH/s.

Bitcoin Miners Earned $1.08 Billion in May, but Prices Then Collapsed

Bitcoin miners finally had a reason to celebrate as their revenue posted its strongest growth in four months, surpassing the $1 billion mark for the first time since January. However, the momentum has slowed dramatically as Bitcoin fell below $66,000 on Tuesday before staging only a modest recovery the following day.

Bitcoin mining difficulty has increased. What is happening in the network

As a result of the latest adjustment, mining difficulty increased to 138.96 T (trillion), according to Cloverpool. This means miners need to calculate about 139 trillion hash functions on average to mine the new 3.125 BTC — roughly $229,000 at the current price of about $73,600.

Bitcoin Miners’ Revenues Fell 9.44% After Sharp Mining Difficulty Increase

After the hashprice metric approached the $40 per petahash per second (PH/s) mark, the latest decline in Bitcoin’s price caused hashprice to fall, reducing mining profitability since May 14. The following day, the situation worsened further due to a difficulty adjustment, which increased mining difficulty by 3.12% compared to the previous epoch.
