Crypto Market Capitalization Exceeds $4 Trillion for the First Time
On July 17, the total cryptocurrency market capitalization exceeded $4 trillion for the first time in history.
“Crossing the $4 trillion mark is not just symbolic — it signals a structural shift in how cryptocurrencies are viewed in the global financial system. Bitcoin’s breakout, the steady inflow of funds into ETFs, and increasing regulatory clarity are all driving serious capital back into the space,” said Vincent Liu, Director at Kronos Research.
According to Coingecko, the total crypto market capitalization reached approximately $4.003 trillion, with over $260.2 billion in crypto trades over the last 24 hours. Bitcoin currently accounts for 59.91% of the total market, with a capitalization of $2.39 trillion.
Altcoins also showed significant growth, potentially signaling a shift in investor focus from Bitcoin to other cryptocurrencies.
“Altcoins are seeing substantial gains as traders rotate capital from Bitcoin into higher beta assets. This pattern is typical in the late stages of market cycles, but this time it’s supported by technological improvements and stronger fundamentals,” said BTC Markets crypto analyst Rachel Lucas.
XRP surged 20% and broke its previous all-time high of $3.4, now trading at $3.62. Ethereum climbed 7.8% to over $3,600, reaching its highest level since the beginning of the year. Solana gained 6.16% to $180.6, Dogecoin rose 10.52% to $0.23, and Cardano jumped 14.76% to $0.86.
