Leading Altcoins Losing Ground to Bitcoin
Statistical data show that over the past three years, major altcoins have been consistently underperforming Bitcoin in terms of growth and profitability.
Trader Daan Crypto Trades shared a chart illustrating that digital assets are finding it increasingly difficult to outperform BTC’s price growth rate. Despite a significant rise in overall market capitalization, Bitcoin continues to appreciate faster than most altcoins, delivering stronger returns to investors.
📈 BTC vs Altcoin Performance Index:
Above 75 — Altcoin Season
Below 25 — Bitcoin Era
Only 29% of the top 50 altcoins have outperformed Bitcoin so far this year, and over the past six months, that figure has not exceeded 39%.
According to Daan Crypto Trades, the last time altcoins significantly outpaced BTC was during the COVID-19 era (2020–2021). Since then, altcoin dominance phases have been short-lived, typically lasting no more than two or three months, and recently — just a few weeks.
Although many analysts predicted an altcoin season in 2025, it never materialized. Bitcoin’s dominance remains strong, as capital rotation from BTC to other coins has been brief, with funds flowing back into Bitcoin within weeks. If this trend continues, most alternative cryptocurrencies are unlikely to see a sustained bull run.
