South Korean retail investors poured hundreds of millions into crypto assets in Q1
Interest from South Korean retail investors in crypto assets reached a notable level in the first quarter. Investors allocated around 1 trillion won into stocks and ETFs of U.S.-based crypto companies.
According to a report based on data from SEIBro, South Korean retail investors made net purchases totaling $627.55 million (approximately 948.6 billion won) from the start of the year through March 30. This represents 9.7% of total overseas stock investments during the same period.
The most popular product among investors was the “2X Ether ETF,” which offers double leverage relative to the price of Ethereum. While such leveraged instruments can generate high returns, they also carry significant risks.
Analysts note that South Korean retail investors have recently shown increased interest in highly volatile assets. The growing integration of crypto markets with traditional financial instruments is also driving demand for ETFs and similar investment products.
At the same time, experts emphasize that leveraged ETFs are better suited for short-term strategies and may pose substantial risks for long-term investors. Market observers believe this trend could influence global crypto investment flows in the near future.
