Bybit exchange to cease providing services to residents of Japan

In an official statement, the platform announced the start of sending notifications to users whom the system has identified as residents of Japan. The notice states that services for Japanese users will be discontinued, and starting in 2026, phased restrictions on access to accounts and exchange services will be applied to them.

Users who believe they have been incorrectly classified as permanent residents of Japan are invited to undergo enhanced Level 2 identity verification (KYC2) by January 22, 2026. This process requires confirmation of the residential address and the submission of utility payment documents.

Bybit emphasized that otherwise, the account will automatically be deemed to belong to a Japanese resident, and the restrictions will take effect. The procedure for confirmed users from Japan, as well as the mechanism for withdrawing assets, will be announced at a later date.

Previously, Japan’s Financial Services Agency (FSA) warned citizens that the Bybit exchange is operating in the country without registration.
