Ripple received a license to issue tokens in the European Union

Cassie Craddock, Ripple’s Director of Business Development for the UK and Europe, explained that thanks to the license, the Ripple Payments service and other Ripple blockchain-based corporate solutions will be able to be legally used throughout the European Union.

“Obtaining an EMI license to operate in the EU is an important achievement that should strengthen Ripple’s position in the European financial market. This region has always been a priority market for us, where we could provide our regulatory-compliant blockchain infrastructure,” Craddock stated.

Last month, Ripple received an EMI license to operate in the United Kingdom after registering with the local Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Ripple’s management reported that the company has obtained more than 75 licenses from regulators in various countries around the world.

At the end of last year, the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) granted Ripple preliminary approval to establish a trust bank. Full approval is expected after the completion of the review — it should grant Ripple the right to custody client assets and process payments, but not the right to issue loans.
