Hut 8 introduces a “Lego-style” approach to switch between AI and Bitcoin mining

Mining company Hut 8 has developed a modular infrastructure model that allows flexible switching of computing power between artificial intelligence tasks and Bitcoin mining. This was reported by The Block.

In a discussion organized by Benchmark, Hut 8 CFO Sean Glenna n compared the architecture to Lego blocks. The company divides its data centers and energy resources into modular units that can be quickly reallocated for different tasks — from high-performance computing to traditional mining.

This approach enables rapid adaptation to market conditions, including changes in Bitcoin prices and demand for AI services.

Switching between AI and mining

The key feature of the model is the ability to dynamically reallocate resources:

  • when demand for AI increases, resources are directed to GPU computing;
  • when mining economics improve, capacity is redirected back to cryptocurrency mining;
  • infrastructure (power, cooling, facilities) is shared across both use cases.

This is possible due to similar requirements for data centers, as both models demand high energy capacity and advanced cooling systems.

A Hut 8 executive noted that this architecture reflects a broader trend — the convergence of the crypto industry and the AI sector.

ChatGPT, Grok and Claude Predict Where Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and Solana Could Be by December 31

2026 has been a difficult period for the cryptocurrency market: since the start of the year, each of the five largest crypto assets by market capitalisation has posted double-digit losses. Among this group, Solana ($SOL) has suffered the most, losing more than 47% of its value since January 1. To understand where the market may head next, we asked several leading modern artificial intelligence (AI) models to forecast the year-end prices of $BTC, $ETH, $BNB, $XRP and $SOL. Their answers were, to put it mildly, intriguing.
