Crypto Security Firm Warns Altcoin Users: “Hackers Have Found a New Method”

The number of hacking attacks in the cryptocurrency market continues to rise, with the latest warning targeting Tron ($TRX) users.

Crypto security company SlowMist announced that hackers are actively targeting TRON wallet users through a sophisticated phishing campaign.

In its security alert, SlowMist revealed that attackers created a fake Chrome extension designed to imitate the official TronLink wallet.

According to the company, the hackers used bidirectional Unicode control characters and visually similar Cyrillic letters to disguise the extension’s name and make it appear almost identical to the legitimate TronLink extension.

The malicious extension, published on the Chrome Web Store, closely mimics the official TronLink branding. Attackers also exploit the high download count and positive reviews associated with the real extension, making the scam extremely difficult for ordinary users to detect.

Once installed, the extension loads a complete phishing page from a remote server, initiating a credential theft process.

The phishing interface accurately copies the official TronLink web wallet and steals private keys, keystore files, and passwords when victims log into their TRON wallets.

The stolen information is then transmitted to attackers in real time through a Telegram bot.

SlowMist Security Recommendations for TRON Users

  1. Immediately inspect and remove any suspicious browser extensions installed from unknown sources.
  2. Clear your browser’s local storage data.
  3. Monitor for unusual network requests or suspicious browser activity.

If your wallet credentials may have been exposed, SlowMist advises users to immediately create a new wallet and transfer all assets to a secure address.
