Ethereum’s Fusaka Upgrade Scheduled for December Release
The long-awaited Fusaka upgrade for the Ethereum blockchain is set to launch on December 3, 2025.
Ethereum developer Alex Stokes announced that the crypto community welcomed the news with enthusiasm, as the update will significantly scale the blockchain by optimizing data collection and verification from Layer 2 networks. This will be achieved by increasing the size of temporary data packets, known as blobs.
The data processing mechanism will be enhanced through the PeerDAS (Peer Data Availability Sampling) solution, which allows validators to check only portions of data instead of entire blobs. This is expected to boost the performance of Layer 2 networks, enabling them to handle a greater number of transactions.
Ordinary Ethereum users will also feel the impact of Fusaka, as transaction fees in Layer 2 networks are expected to drop sharply and may eventually approach zero, making transfers virtually free.
Even now, Layer 2 networks offer a clear cost advantage over Ethereum’s mainnet — for instance, on Loopring, the fee for sending tokens is $0.04, and for swaps $0.59, compared to $1.10 and $5.48 respectively on the Ethereum mainnet.
