Expert: The Biggest Chapter in Crypto History Is Still Ahead

An anonymous crypto analyst known as Defileo published a review arguing that the main chapter in the history of the crypto industry has yet to be written. He believes that viewing the market purely as a speculative cycle driven by the price movements of Bitcoin distorts the bigger picture.

According to him, most people perceive cryptocurrencies solely through the lens of volatility: “Bitcoin rises, then falls — some people profit, others lose.” He compares this perspective to judging the internet based on the performance of AOL stock in 1999.

Defileo argues that the crypto industry represents not merely an investment trend, but a new type of infrastructure layer. Today, blockchain technology allows users to send digital funds anywhere in the world within seconds for less than $0.01 in fees. It also enables borrowing assets without bank intermediaries and owning digital assets that cannot be removed by a platform or centralized operator.

He highlights significant technological progress in recent years. Modern crypto wallets such as Rabby Wallet and Phantom Wallet have eliminated much of the technical complexity that previously discouraged newcomers. The DeFi sector — encompassing lending, borrowing, and trading without banks — now manages tens of billions of dollars and differs substantially from its state in 2017.

Nevertheless, active users still represent only a small fraction of the global population. While most people have heard of Bitcoin, few outside professional circles understand Layer 2 networks, how DeFi works, or the broader implications of these technologies for everyday life.

In Defileo’s view, the crypto industry remains relatively small but is evolving faster than the internet did at a comparable stage. He urges observers to assess the market not through short-term price fluctuations, but through the lens of a long-term infrastructure cycle — suggesting that the most transformative developments are still ahead.
