A drop in Ethereum below $2323 could trigger $1.04B in liquidations

New Coinglass heatmap data shows that $ETH is once again positioned between two major liquidation zones, with leverage concentrated both below and above the current price. If $ETH falls below $2323, total long liquidations across major centralized exchanges could reach approximately $1.044 billion. On the upside, a breakout above $2563 could liquidate short positions worth up to $531 million.

Coinglass describes its heatmaps as tools for identifying price ranges where large-scale liquidations may occur, aggregating data from futures and perpetual swaps on exchanges like Binance, OKX, and Bybit. Liquidations can cause sharp price swings, as forced buying or selling cascades once key levels are breached.

The current $2323–$2563 range sits on top of an already crowded derivatives market. Earlier data showed significant liquidation risks in the $1952–$2154 range, with nearly $1.8 billion in leveraged positions. In such conditions, even a 5–7% move can trigger cascading liquidations.

Leverage builds as price rises

Updated data indicates that as $ETH moves higher, leverage concentration is also increasing. Current open interest is حوالي $32.8 billion, with about $111.6 million in ETH futures liquidated over the past 24 hours alone. This highlights how even small price movements continue to wipe out overleveraged traders.

Additional critical levels identified:

  • Above $2451 — ~$1.47B in short positions at risk
  • Below $2220 — ~$1.10B in long positions at risk

These dense leverage zones create mechanical buying or selling pressure, amplifying otherwise moderate price movements.

Conclusion

For traders, the message is clear: the next few hundred dollars in either direction carry the risk of hundreds of millions — or even billions — in forced liquidations. Using high leverage in this range effectively means betting on outrunning a massive liquidation wave rather than being caught in it.

Ethereum Price Forecast: Bets Drop Below $2,800 as Sellers Test Key EMA Resistance

Ethereum is currently trading around $2,950, stabilizing after a sharp rejection from the $3,100 zone earlier this week. The rebound followed a drop to the $2,750–$2,800 zone, where aggressive bids forced short-term sellers to retreat. While the bounce offers short-term relief, Ethereum remains capped below key EMA resistance, maintaining pressure on the broader structure ahead of December 20.
