Changpeng Zhao Calls for Binance’s Return to the U.S. Market
In a conversation with investor Anthony Pompliano, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) said that the current U.S. administration supports digital assets. He called the U.S. government one of the most influential in the world and praised it for embracing and promoting cryptocurrencies.
Although Binance is the world’s largest crypto exchange, it is currently operating outside the United States, Zhao noted. He emphasized that Binance is ready to contribute to the development of the American crypto industry.
“We would like to help the U.S. become the world’s crypto capital, but regulatory barriers remain the key challenge,” Zhao said.
Earlier, the U.S. Department of Justice accused Zhao of being aware of suspicious transactions on Binance related to terrorism financing and other illegal activities, which the exchange failed to report to authorities.
Last week, Donald Trump granted Zhao a pardon, declaring him not guilty of illegal transactions or violations of anti–money laundering laws.
Recently, Democratic congresswoman Maxine Waters called Zhao’s pardon an act of corruption, claiming that Trump is encouraging criminal activity linked to cryptocurrencies, as Binance may have been used for suspicious transactions connected to drug trafficking.
