Zcash to Launch Quantum-Resistant Crypto Wallets by Summer
The privacy-focused crypto project promises to achieve full post-quantum status within the next 1.5 years.
Zcash will release crypto wallets protected against quantum hacking within a month and aims to achieve full post-quantum status within 12–18 months. This was announced by Josh Swihart, founder and CEO of Zcash Open Development Lab, during his speech at Consensus Miami, according to CoinDesk.
The project refers to so-called “quantum-recoverable wallets.” Unlike traditional wallets, they allow users to recover or move funds into a new environment if the current system is compromised by quantum algorithms.
Josh Swihart also stated that Bitcoin is “fundamentally broken” as a system for private peer-to-peer payments because blockchain transparency allows governments to track and confiscate users’ coins.
Meanwhile, around 30% of all Zcash is currently held in the so-called “shielded pool” for private transactions, marking a record level for the network, the publication noted.
The statement comes amid the ongoing rally of Zcash. It is currently the 13th-largest cryptocurrency with a market capitalization of $9.4 billion and was specifically designed for anonymous transactions.
Zcash has been among the top-performing cryptocurrencies in 2025. Over the past year, its price has surged by more than 1300%, and over the last week it entered the top five fastest-growing cryptocurrencies.
Several catalysts contributed to the rise of Zcash. Major crypto hedge fund Multicoin Capital announced significant investments in the project, while Grayscale Investments, one of the largest players in the crypto market, is converting its existing Zcash private fund into an ETF. In late April, brokerage platform Robinhood listed Zcash.
As of 09:00 GMT on May 8, Zcash was trading at $560. The token’s 24-hour trading volume stood at $931 million, representing roughly 10% of its market capitalization.
