Bhutan, which had long been quietly accumulating Bitcoin (BTC) through mining, has begun selling BTC
According to data provided by the cryptocurrency analytics platform Arkham Intelligence, the government of Bhutan continues to move part of its Bitcoin holdings. The latest data shows that Bhutan transferred about $11 million worth of Bitcoin from its main wallet addresses. This is believed to be part of the country’s periodic asset sale operations.
Bhutan had previously conducted a similar transaction. About a month ago, the country reportedly sold approximately $7 million worth of Bitcoin in partnership with QCP Capital. Blockchain data shows that the Bhutanese government prefers to sell small portions of its Bitcoin reserves, usually in batches of $5–10 million. Notably, selling activity intensified between mid and late September 2025.
According to Arkham, significant amounts of cryptocurrency are still stored at addresses controlled by Druk Holdings & Investments, Bhutan’s state investment arm. This entity controls approximately 222 different wallet addresses holding more than $374 million in crypto assets.
Most of these assets consist of Bitcoin. According to the data, the Bhutanese government holds approximately 5,425 BTC, with a total value of about $374 million.
In addition, Bhutan’s wallets also contain a small amount of Ethereum — around 28 ETH, valued at approximately $57,000.
