Mining Bitcoin miner Hut 8 announces launch of four new sites in the US

Mining company Hut 8 has announced the launch of four new sites in the US states of Texas, Illinois, and Louisiana.

“With this step, we will be able to double the scale of our platform and meet the growing demand for energy-intensive use cases,” said the company’s CEO, Asher Genoot.

The existing Hut 8 platform, with a capacity of 1 gigawatt, is already 90% utilized. The new facilities are expected to support “energy-demanding use cases beyond traditional Bitcoin mining,” such as high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and next-generation industrial applications.

Each of the four new sites will be connected to regional power grids. To prevent future strain on infrastructure, Hut 8 plans to secure favorable power supply contracts in advance and leverage the “economies of scale.”

The miner has already leased land, signed grid connection agreements, and is currently engaged in the physical construction of the facilities. Once operational, Hut 8’s total managed capacity will exceed 2.5 gigawatts.

The launch of the new facilities will be financed through the company’s cryptocurrency reserves, loans, and investor funds. At present, Hut 8 holds more than 10,000 BTC worth nearly $1.2 billion.
