Dutch House of Representatives Rejects Proposal to Create Bitcoin Reserve
Thierry Baudet, leader of the Forum for Democracy party, argued that the government should focus on accumulating and independently storing reserve assets such as gold and Bitcoin, given that persistent inflation continuously erodes the purchasing power of fiat currency.
According to Baudet, a Bitcoin reserve alongside gold could strengthen the Netherlands’ economic sovereignty amid global uncertainty.
“If this step were implemented, the Netherlands would become a leader in integrating cryptocurrencies into national treasury management in Europe,” Baudet stated.
However, Baudet’s proposal received little support in parliament and was largely ignored by other lawmakers.
Earlier, Pieter Hasekamp, Director of the Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis (CPB), stated that the government should move as quickly as possible to ban all cryptocurrency transactions.
